Are You Where You Wanted To Be 10 Years Ago?

Ok, it’s the last month, of the last year of this decade. This got me to thinking. Am I where I want to be?

Spark Some Long Term Thinking

We all set ourselves goals and they normally manifest in New Years resolutions. But this is different.

It’s worth thinking about your destination otherwise how will you ever know you have gotten there?

Looking back to the end of 2009 am I in a better place than I was back then? I was married to someone else with the marriage going slowly southwards despite best efforts. My house needed lots of work. And I was in a job I loved with people I loved.

Fast forward 10 years and I am re-married, to the love of my life, I have an 8 month old boy who is my world. I am moving into a brand new career; which is something incredibly exciting.

So, is now the time to start planning where I want to be in December 2029? Not really. Planning would be too strong a word so let’s settle for thinking.

I would like a larger family by then, maybe 3 children and planning my 10 year anniversary with my beautiful wife. A detached house somewhere in the country and be in a creative job I love and gets me bouncing out of bed in the morning. If this is me being a voice artist then great; or a writer, a vlogger l, a baker or a candlestick maker – whatever as long as I am happy.

For me that would represent success. To be healthy is also hugely on this long term list.

Am I where I wanted to be 10 years ago? Nope! And I will tell you why. Because my younger self never asked that question. I simply don’t know if I have been successful purely because I didn’t think about it – which is a shame; one I don’t wish to repeat.

So what will it take for you? Who do you want to be in 10 New Years resolutions from now.

It’s worth thinking about your destination otherwise how will you ever know you have gotten there?
